Subject Matter - Laurent Becquaert - Gille Delhaye - Bernard Gilbert - Charlotte Marchand
Exhibition from 17 January to 29 February 2020
In this period of collapsology in which we watch, isolated in front of our screens, the tidal waves with difficulty putting out fires, and in which the artists are each working in their own corner at the dawn of the collapse, Subjet Matter articulates the complicity and the colours of four experienced painters in a jubilant and collective dynamic, an affront in the 21st century. A small pictorial fair in itself, this first painting exhibition at the A-Galerie Brussels plays on the link between the creators and a playful and collective hanging in the gallery, in order to reshuffle the cards and rediscover the sharing of painting on canvas, on wood or on polyester canvas.
On the basis of their manifesto, Charlotte Marchand, Bernard Gilbert, Gille Delhaye and Laurent Becquaert are relaunching themselves, with this proposal, in a dynamic of matter and sharing, with original works. With at the centre of the matter, the subject that is painting without dogmas, an impossible definition.
Each one comes from his experiences and materials, from building to mdf, from bodywork to wood, from canvas to vinyl or from canvas to canvas.
The collective is dead, long live the collective!
